Many have noticed and frequently enquired with interest that Dave's first solo album project from 1976-1977, Moon Over Man, is missing from his Bandcamp store. 50 years on, stay tight as we are working heavily to restore, remaster and share this anniversary with a lot of work and love. Further updates will be posted into 2027.
前回ご紹介したRichard Sinclair’s Canterbury of Dreamsのアルバム「Live Tracks」ですが、バタバタしていて、ようやく今朝、聴きました。
トラック毎にバラツキはありますが、音質はまずまず。有名曲満載で楽しいライブ音源集となっています。
さて、私の前回投稿では、「1991〜1993年の音源だそうです。ドラムはAndy Wardです。」とコメントしたのですが、ブックレット記載の収録年月日と演奏者データを見てびっくり!

前回のハイライトはPeter Greenでしたが、またまたビッグ・ネームの登場となります。
Down at the Klooks Kleek Club one night, we were joined onstage by an extra-special guest singer.Rod Stewart was fast making a name for himself on London's R&B circuit with his gravel-in-a-biscuit-tin voice.
Rod Stewartは、間も無く正式メンバーとなります。
Things went so well that night in the Kleek that Rod joined our band full-time.
更には、女性ボーカリストも加わります。
We now expanded our vocal line-up to include Beryl Marsden, a glam Toxteth toughie with heart and a massive voice who had sung at The Cavern, fronted the band the Undertakers, performed in Hamburg, had opened for the Beatles in 1965 on their final UK tour.
ボーカルが強化され、強力な布陣となりました。
We now had the unique voices of raspy Rod and breathy Beryl.We had the keyboard-playing brilliance of Pete Bardens, the dazzling drumming of Mick Fleetwood and the genius, other-worldly guitar-playing of Peter Green.
しかし、このことでパンド・スタイルが大きく変わります。
We kissed our instrumental-only ambitions goodbye.
プロモーションも本格化します。
A new set of photographic portraits was now commissioned by the Gunnells to promote the band, featuring our stunningly gorgeous new singers with Pete Bardens. All three were clutching rifles and sported magnificently sculpted hairdos. Got up in great garb, they looked fantastic. Mick Fleetwood had dressed like a rock star for years.
しかし、根っからのブルース・マンの二人には居心地悪いものだったようです。
It was only Peter Green and I who were letting the side down.

We were selling out, and compromising our integrity. No wonder Peter couldn't stand it anymore. Out he went and in came John Moorshead, all too soon to be replaced by former Cheynes guitarist Phil
というわけで、Shotgun Expressはシングル2枚をリリースしただけで瓦解します。
The so-called greatest year in history, the year we were supposed to get our big break, was fast drawing to a close. We still hadn't had a hit. Peter Green was gone. Rod Stewart quit. Phil Sawyer dumped us for the Spencer Davis Group. Mick Fleetwood had his eye on a greater prize. For Shotgun Express, the bullets were spent, and the track was running out.
これまでの記述は、Shotgun Expressの2枚のシングル盤をコンパイルした10インチ盤の裏ジャケにある記事と同じようです。
1966年リリースの1stシングルの曲を方をざっくり解説します。
A面 I Could Feel The Whole World Turn Round
Rod StewartとBeryl Marsdenの掛け合いが楽しいポップなボーカル曲です。ゴージャスなストリングスが入ります。
B面 Curtains
ちょっとコミカルなオルガンのインスト曲です。ダンス用 ?
翌年の2枚めのシングルは次の通りです。
A面 Funny 'cos Neither Could I
これもストリングスをフューチャーしたポップス然としたボーカル曲です。
B面 Indian Thing
ちょっとサイケなオルガン・メインのインスト曲で、Peter Bardensの後のソロ作The Answerと似たタイプの曲です
どちらの盤もポップ・ボーカル曲とオルガン・インスト曲からなっており、アンビバレントで、なんともバンドのまとまりに欠けるようです。
ちなみに、Beryl Marsdenのアンソロジー・アルバムには「Funny 'cos Neither Could I」が、Rod Stewartの初期アンソロジー・アルバムには「I Could Feel The Whole World Turn Round」が収録されています。ついでに言いますと、前回記事で紹介したPeter Greenのアンソロジー盤には、Peter B's LoonersやPeter Bardensのソロ作の曲は収録されていますが、Shotgun Expressの曲はありません! Peter GreenとBeryl Marsdenはお付き合いしてたんですけどね(笑
